Sealing Your Good Health

Despite being the smartest species, human beings are often expected to settle for things that are well beneath their capabilities. In fact, the idea of going an extra yard has held no appeal whatsoever for most people throughout our history. Fortunately, though, there have been a few exceptions staggered across different generations. These exceptions have done the work of getting us to push our boundaries, therefore becoming pretty much integral to our growth. Now, it must be noted that such attempts came through in heavy variance. Each one had its own unique features, and consequentially, a different approach regarding how to elevate us. Nevertheless, if we are to make a choice over which attempt went on to make the strongest long-term impact, the consensus’ answer will be technology. This is no knock on our other mediums of growth, but technology, as far as progression is concerned, has literally altered the course of our lives for the better. Today, the world has different ways to appear as smart, and that is seemingly making all the difference. You only have to look at how all the major spheres around us are relying on tech ideology to squeeze out contrasting benefits not just on a holistic scale but also on a granular level. The said reality, in return, is helping us with fulfilling our potential rather than settling for less than what we deserve. A recent example of it was observed within the medical sector.

BioDevek, a medtech company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has successfully developed a one-of-a-kind biomaterial adhesive, which is purposed around sealing internal wounds and incisions. The adhesive can be used for a procedure like colonic polyp resection that suffers from severe downsides in this context. As of now, surgeons depend on polyp clips to seal all wounds, but the method has long been called as potentially dangerous because it carries a tendency to leave open wounds, hence producing a sizeable chance of internal bleeding and gazillion other medical complications. The biomaterial solves the issue in a straightforward manner. Designed to be sprayed through a catheter, BioDevek’s adhesive seals the site of a resected polyp instantly and offers sustainable protection to every wound and incision in play. Apart from colonic polyp resection, it can also be modified to facilitate a host of other applications.

When asked about what makes the adhesive stand-out, BioDevek’s co-founder, Natalie Artzi said:

“As no two patients are exactly alike, our material is designed to interact with each tissue uniquely to maximize its performance. We have also developed an injectable solution that can coat the anastomotic line between tissue and graft following cardiovascular surgeries.”
