As transformational as it is, the truth is human beings never really use their entire skill-set. However, there is a particular skill that we use rather repeatedly, and it’s the one through which we solve all our problems. In fact, our problem-solving ability is what helped us become the most dominant species in the world’s history. Now, when you have already achieved so much on the back of something, it doesn’t make sense to tone it down, so we’ll continue on the said path. It will expectantly guide us towards some unprecedented milestones over time, but if we are being honest, none would turn out to be quite like technology. You see, technology brought a sense of promise that we had never witnessed before. Hence, the high upside will eventually convince us to handover the reigns to this ingenious creation. In hindsight, we can see how it became our best decision by a country mile. Technology’s sheer knack of fitting into any fabric allowed it to impact the entire human spectrum. While that set us up for a more collective brand of growth, it wasn’t happening without the contributions from our healthcare sector, as the success technology got in here was really the landmark which displayed its reliability to the world. Even after reinventing the way medical sector used to work, the creation will keep on elevating it beyond all limits, and Avive’s recent funding should only further aid the said cause.
Avive, a San Francisco-based company, has officially secured over $22 million in Series A financing. According to certain reports, Catalyst Health Ventures and Questa Capital co-led the round, whereas an old investor in Laerdal Million Lives Fund also joined the party. Assuming there is no change in the established blueprint; Avive plans to use the new cash injection for developing its intelligent AED (automated external defibrillator) technology, which is focused on reducing deaths that are caused by out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. While AED is not an unknown concept around the healthcare block, Avive’s approach to it stands out quite comfortably. Unlike any previous AED permutation, the company uses a data-driven platform to coach bystanders how to deliver immediate care during an emergency. The approach is supposed to significantly offset EMS’ current 8-12 minutes response time.
“Technology can improve the odds, especially if it is deployed in a thoughtful and data-driven manner. We want to bring affordable, intelligent AEDs to the places they’re needed most and empower those communities with the tools to perform life-saving measures even before first responders arrive. With this investment, our goal is not only within reach, it’s taking shape to create a new paradigm where death doesn’t have to be the expectation,” said Sameer Jafri, co-founder and CEO of Avive.
To put the setup into action, you have to call 911 first of all. Next up, the dispatcher will guide you in locating the closest AED device. Once you have the device, you’ll also be advised in terms of delivering the neccassary care. As per some statistics, for every minute a person suffering from cardiac arrest doesn’t receive AED shock or CPR, their chances of survival decrease by 7% to 10%, therefore having a means to curb that risk is surely good news.
