Birthing a Stronger Mental Health Infrastructure for Younger Generation

The human society has never known a limitation, and yet there still remains an awful little that we do better than growing on a consistent basis. This progressive approach, on our part, has already got the world to hit upon some huge milestones, with technology appearing as a major member of the stated group. The reason why technology enjoys such an esteemed stature among people is; by and large, predicated upon its skill-set, which ushered us towards a reality that nobody could have ever imagined otherwise. Nevertheless, if we look up close for a second, it will become clear how the whole runner was also very much inspired from the way we applied those skills across a real world environment. The latter component was, in fact, what gave the creation a spectrum-wide presence, and consequentially, kickstarted a tech revolution. Of course, this revolution then went on to scale up the human experience through some outright unique avenues, but even after achieving such a monumental feat, technology will somehow continue to produce the right goods. The same has grown increasingly evident over the recent past, and assuming one new healthcare-themed development shakes out just like we envision, it will only make that trend bigger and better moving forward.

Talkiatry, a leading provider of high-quality, in-network psychiatric care, has officially announced a partnership with Charlie Health, the leading provider of virtual high-acuity mental healthcare for teens and young adults. According to certain reports, the stated partnership will provide an integrated mental healthcare experience to young patients stepping up to virtual intensive outpatient care at Charlie Health and stepping down to ongoing psychiatric care at Talkiatry.  The focus here is likely to be upon coordinating case management, discharge planning, information exchange, and other operational aspects. The overall idea driving this whole charge is to measure clinical outcomes, and then use those measurements to implement a more continuous brand of quality improvements in mental health. Talk about how the two companies will chip in for the cause, starting from Charlie Health, it will use its proprietary evidence based virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP) to do the job. Specifically conceived for young people who need more-than-once weekly therapy or require additional support as they transition back home after residential or hospital-based care, the stated program makes a point to deliver at your disposal a comprehensive treatment plan which is inclusive of facilitated groups, individual and family therapy, medication management and more. As for Talkiatry, it will offer patients, who require less intensive care, virtual psychiatric services covered by more than 100 health plan contracts. This will be particularly helpful in ensuring new patients can be seen within days of booking an initial appointment. Complimenting the same is Talkiatry’s team of more than 300 board-certified psychiatrists specializing in various mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and more. At present, company’s child & adolescent services are available in 31 states.

“The youth mental health crisis is palpable in our everyday work with adolescents and young adults, and its care needs are more acute than that of any recent generation,” said Dr. Georgia Gaveras, Chief Medical and Co-Founder of Talkiatry. “It’s critical that we not only focus on solving the problem of access to care but also ensure that the right type of care is available to those with differing needs. That’s what the Talkiatry and Charlie Health partnership is designed to achieve.”

The partnership provides an interesting follow-up to one recent discovery where it was concluded that nearly one in five U.S. adults experience mental illness, and 55% of them go untreated every year. If we narrow down our focus to include just the younger generation, then the data reveals that one in five children across US have a mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder, at any given point, whereas only half of children and adolescents with diagnosable mental health problems actually receive treatment.

Now, we referred to how the partners will contribute to turn this collaboration into a success, but what makes them an ideal candidate to get on with such an effort? Well, in Talkiatry’s case, the answer stems from the way it focuses on the root of our mental health crisis. You see, more than 45% of clinicians are out of network with insurers because reimbursement rates are low and paperwork is unduly burdensome.  The company, in response, has built up triple digits line-up of health plan contracts and psychiatrists. However, that’s not all, as Talkiatry also leverages an innovative in-house technology to help patients access the care they need.

Moving on Charlie Health’s credentials, it has its utility rooted in tailoring treatment experiences to achieve optimal outcomes. Put that alongside company’s health plan network, which is currently the biggest in the US and includes commercial and Medicaid across 27 states and counting.

“At Charlie Health, we’re redefining the mental health treatment experience. This goes beyond therapy; care navigation is a core commitment of ours and we’re excited to work with Talkiatry’s team to further support our clients throughout their care journeys,” said Dr. Caroline Fenkel, Chief Clinical Officer and Co-Founder of Charlie Health.
