Making the Dental Leap

The reason why we can deem human beings as the most dominant species ever revolves a lot around our willingness to grow. You see, when we allow ourselves to grow on a rather consistent basis, we end up stumbling upon things that we would have never come across otherwise. This, as you can guess, widens our horizon, and consequentially, raises our floor. Now, when you are functioning within such a progressive dynamic, you become likely to see some notable by-products emerge from it, but if we take a second and assess all these by-products in hindsight, we won’t see anything as significant as technology. While there were plenty of factors that went into making technology the ultimate winner, the most notable one has to be the creation’s expansive nature. Unlike any other idea, technology was able to impact our entire spectrum, and by doing so, it helped us in achieving a more collective growth over time. Nevertheless, some of its contributions were indeed a little bigger than the rest. To give you an example, we can look at what the creation did for our healthcare sector. Since linking-up with technology, our healthcare sector has really gone on to take up a whole different outlook on everything. This, of course, means a better brand of treatments across the board and an overall approach that keeps patient’s convenience at the forefront under all situations. However, even after achieving so much, the linkup is still bringing the right goods to the table. In fact, one recent FDA approval should only bolster the stated trend.

Overjet, a medtech company based in Boston, has officially received FDA’s approval for its software that harnesses AI capabilities to detect more cavities in patients. Named as Caries Assist, the software was tested on over 7,000 tooth surfaces before it got the green light. Talk about test results, the dentists, who used Caries Assist, were able to enhance their accuracy in regards to detecting cavities by a sizeable 32%. Interestingly enough, this isn’t Overjet’s first approved take on scaling up dental health. In May 2021, the company got the FDA nod for another solution called Dental Assist, which is basically designed to help dentists with detecting and measuring the extent of serious gum diseases, but that’s not all. Dental Assist, like the newly-launched Caries Assist, also offers you the basis to create a personalized treatment plan.

“Since our inception in 2018, we have been on a quest to improve oral health by creating a future that is clinically precise, efficient, and patient-centric,” said Dr. Wardah Inam, co-founder and CEO of Overjet. “Today, with this landmark clearance we are spearheading the transformation with innovative solutions for an industry that collectively wants better patient outcomes. With our Caries Assist, we are here to make a positive impact on the health of millions of Americans.”

Built around a subscription model, Overjet is currently working alongside some of country’s biggest dental groups and insurance companies, including Benco Dental, Seattle Study Club, Dental Care Alliance, and Jefferson Dental & Orthodontics.
