Opening Up a New Playing-field

A great thing about human life is that it gives us the control to load it with the kind of experiences we want. However, despite this choice, at times we do tend to encounter things that we didn’t quite see coming. On some occasions, these things can even go beyond our very ability to comprehend. This was exactly what happened when we came across technology. The whole idea gave an impression of just being too good to be true, and from that perception, certain doubts began to pop up. Fortunately, we were able to come around. The concept of it might have looked too grand initially, but we knew better than passing up on such an opportunity. Soon, we shaped technology into a platform for our growth, and the growth of everything around us. This maneuver will turn out to be a game-changing one, as it set us off on a path that would take us away from outdated methodologies, but that’s not all what it did. By restructuring certain elements of our lives, technology gave them a new meaning altogether. For instance, the idea of healthcare is no longer limited to treating the patient who is facing some medical complication. Instead, it has become about finding the most apt avenues to encourage your well-being every single day. As a result of this change, today’s generation is constantly taught how to make healthier choices in life. This can done through numerous creations orchestrated by telehealth, and by the looks of it, we can expect another important addition to this list at some point down the line.

As per a report put-together by Wall Street Journal, Apple is currently working on a set of iPhone features that would do the work of detecting mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, cognitive decline etc. The company is pushing this project ahead in collaboration with University of California, and biotech firm, Biogen, across separate studies. If the features really materialize, they will add another dimension to Apple’s already huge telehealth portfolio.

There are many reasons to believe that tech-giant is actually considering such a thing. One of them would be responding to the growing criticism about minimal differentiation between new phones in the market. So far, the companies from similar niche have been trying to sell their products on the basis of reworked operating system, camera capabilities, and device size, hence Apple have a chance here to open up a whole new playing-field. From what is implied in the report, the detection tool will assess your mental health through data collected from metrics like mobility, physical activity, sleep patterns, and even your typing behavior.
