As a society, much of our struggle comes from trying to find the perfect solution. Even though we haven’t been able to achieve it so far, the world continues to search for it in every existing element. Now, one might say that, if we haven’t achieved it despite our best efforts, then maybe we should just stop looking for it so rigorously, but this reasoning doesn’t consider some important factors, with the most important factor revolving around a creation called technology. Since starting out, technology has proven to be a concept that literally makes you rethink your entire ideology. By doing so, it has instilled a unique intelligence into our operations, and today, the said intelligence is evident throughout the spectrum, including our global healthcare sector. Honestly, healthcare and technology weren’t always considered a good match. This was largely why the introduction of medtech didn’t have everyone quite as amped up as you would have expected. Fortunately, though, the mood will change big time, and once it does, we’ll have ourselves a whole new brand of healthcare. The stated brand’s stewardship has so far led us towards some really unbelievable milestones, but a recent funding suggests that a lot is still left on the cards, so we better not give up on the pursuit of perfection just yet.
Podimetrics, a company focused on diabetic foot health, has successfully raised over $45 million in Series C financing. Led by D1 Capital Partners, the round saw further participation coming from Medtech Convergence Fund, Polaris Partners, Scientific Health Development, and an undisclosed strategic investor. According to certain reports, the Massachusetts-based company plans to use the new funding for conceiving an extensive recruitment drive, which will bolster its 85 employees-big workforce to 170 before the end of this year. Podimetrics is best known for creating a SmartMat technology that is purposed around early detection of foot health issues. Talk about the purpose, the mat targets diabetic patients, who are, due to their primary condition, also suffering from some other complications. It’s an easy-to-use setup, as all you have to do is stand on the mat for 20 seconds. During the said 20 seconds, the SmartMat will gauge any changes in your foot temperature. These changes are then relayed to Podimetrics’ in-house nurse support team. In case a detrimental pattern is observed within the readings, the nursing team instantly reaches out and gives a timely warning to the concerned patient.
“This funding is a new chapter in growth and acceleration for Podimetrics and the vulnerable population we serve,” said Jon Bloom, CEO and co-founder of Podimetrics. “With new capabilities on the horizon, we can better target our efforts to directly help those in need and move to eliminate the needless suffering from diabetic amputations.”
Apart from the general scale-up, Podimetrics is focused on reducing the disparities in care, a goal which talks at length to significantly higher amputations in Black people.
